Hi Bob,
I wanted to know whether you could actually make a good living on relief teaching alone.
Is it better that full time teaching?
Hi Terra,
There are certainly a lot of people who are making a good living from relief teaching. In fact I have employed many relief teachers who pretty much work full time.
In reality, the rate for relief teachers is a little higher than full time teaching but you don’t get the benefits of full time employment such as sick leave, long service leave, tenure, promotion opportunities.
It is like any casual work and you have to weight the benefits of both.
For many, relief teaching fits their life style. For most, full time employment is preferred. It really is a point in time thing.
Good luck with your plans.
Bob
